CHRISTOPHER MAKOS

$1,500.00

In 1991, the Optical Affairs designers Roth & Domege commissioned their friend American photographer and painter Christopher Makos to create an oversized diptych canvas with images of their iconic Series 5555 sunglasses split across them.

In addition, Makos also created a limited edition of 100 diptych serigraphs inspired by the original diptych canvas which are signed, numbered, dated and sealed in a brown cardboard box reinforced with wood and labeled “MAKOS OPTICAL AFFAIRS” on the outside. To show what is inside the brown card box: the view of both serigraphs (39/100) which are from another set.

Christopher Makos (born 1948) is an American photographer and artist. He apprenticed with photographer Man Ray in Paris and collaborated with Andy Warhol, whom he showed how to use his first camera. Warhol called Makos the “most modern photographer in America”. Makos would eventually become a central and trusted member of Warhol’s inner circle. For this reason, he features heavily in the Netflix series The Andy Warhol Diaries. His work has been exhibited internationally, including the Guggenheim Bilbao and the Tate Modern in London.
